France: 1,000 tonnes of sugar recalled due to pesticide risk

Higher levels of pesticides than the authorized amount led to the recall of some packets of fine-granulated cooking sugar produced by the brand Beghin Say.

According to the news report published in connexionfrance.com, Sugar producer Tereos, said that 1,000 tonnes of products are impacted by the recall. Additional stock of 1000 tonne sugar has been withheld for delivery, said the company.

Beghin Say issued a statement, “The presence of ethylene oxide at a higher level than the authorized by the European legislation has led us to take action.”

It has appealed to the people that had bought the product to not eat it and to throw the content of the pack away.
