Paris: Fearing stoppage of the mills due to shortage of fuel, France has released strategic fuel reserves for sugar producers, said producer group SNFS.
The sugar producers had warned that the lack of diesel would impact the harvesting of sugar beet.
The refining and delivery at TotalEnergies and Exxon Mobil refineries have been disrupted due to strikes over wages that have increased the shortage in France. The French government informed that it has tapped its strategic fuel reserves to overcome the situation.
Tereos, the largest sugar maker in France, had stated that it had slowed down sugar production due to a lack of diesel.
Cristal Union, another sugar producer, said that it managed to maintain production rates last week by using its fuel stocks.
A meeting between sugar producers and French Agriculture Minister Marc Fesneau last Wednesday resulted in the government releasing strategic stocks.
