Global Biofuels Alliance membership to be opened up on July 22

India is on track to achieve 20% ethanol blending by 2025 and E20 petrol is already available at 1,350 fuel retail outlets, said Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, reports Indian Express.

According to the mews report published in The Hindu, he announced that the Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA), initiative by India with support from the United States (US) and Brazil, will be opened to other countries for membership on July 22 at G20 Energy Transition Ministerial Meeting in Goa.

“I am pleased to share that GBA will be opened up for membership on July 22, 2023 at Goa. This will be a landmark event in the history of the global energy market and has huge potential on the lines of OPEC,” Puri said in his address at an event on accelerating progress on Sustainable Development Goals and global biofuel

India’s biofuels achievements have been commendable so far, as the country achieved its target of 10% ethanol blending ahead of schedule in June of the previous year, surpassing the initial timeline set for November 2022. As a result, the target for E20 blending has been brought forward from 2030 to 2025-26. These advancements signify India’s commitment to sustainable energy and its role as a leader in the global biofuels industry.
