Goa: Sanjivani sugar factory farmers threaten to go on strike

Ponda, Goa: Sugarcane farmers associated with the Sanjivani Sugar factory have threatened to go on indefinite strike from September 29 if the government fails to decide on the revival of the sugar mill by September 25.

The farmers under the leadership of Rajendra Desai convened a meeting in the sugar factory premises at Dharbandora and discussed the issues related to the mill.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Desai said that we want the government to provide a written assurance on our pending demands before September 25 and if the government fails to do so we will hold a dharna in front of the sugar factory premises from September 29.

He said, “The farmers are fed up with the uncertain future of Sanjivani and want the government to clear its stand whether the factory would run in future or closed permanently.”
