Government so far cleared export subsidy worth Rs 1,800 crore

The government has so far cleared export subsidies worth Rs 1,800 crore to sugar mills to achieve the target of exporting 6 million tonnes of sugar in the 2020-21 season.

For the last few years, the government has been providing export subsidies to mills to reduce the excess sugar stocks in the country and help mills to clear cane dues.

According to the news agency PTI, the official from food ministry said, “About Rs Rs 3,500 crore budget was allocated towards export subsidy for the ongoing season. Out of which, Rs Rs 1,800 crore has been spent on clearing the subsidy claims.”
