Guyana to tap India’s technology to boost sugar output

Guyana will be taking the help of Indian technology and expertise to increase sugar productivity locally, Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo stated that the government is focused on reviving the sugar industry, reports Newsroom.

He stated that during his recent visit to India, he discussed with the top Indian officials to find possible solutions to increasing record levels of productivity in the sugarcane sector in Guyana.

“Using sugarcane varieties from India can give two to three times the output compared to what we are getting now in a single acre of cane,” he said.

Indian methods could be helpful to Guyana to expand our tissue culture facilities in a significant way that can provide us with good cane seeds for cultivation, he said.
