Haryana: Farmers in Karnal district to provide 100,000 tonnes of stubble to IOCL ethanol plant

Karnal: Farmers in Karnal district will supply 100,000 metric tons (MT) of stubble bundles to the Indian Oil Corporation’s (IOCL) second-generation (2G) ethanol plant in Panipat, reported Tribune India.

To facilitate this initiative, IOCL has established five collection yards for crop residue processing and subsequent transfer to the plant, where it undergoes conversion into ethanol.

The Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department is actively supporting IOCL in encouraging farmers to participate in this venture, providing them with the opportunity to profit from selling their stubble. The IOCL pays Rs 1,890 per MT to each Custom Hiring Centre (CHC), or person with machines to manage stubble.

Authorities have reported that, to date, farmers in the district have contributed 60,000 MT of stubble bundles. Dr. Wazir Singh, Deputy Director of Agriculture (DDA), stated, “We have been tasked with supplying 100,000 MT of stubble to IOCL this season. We have already delivered 60,000 MT, with the remaining 40,000 MT scheduled for delivery by November 15.”

Five collection centers have been established in Bhamberehri, Jamalpur, Agondh, Amupur, and Bandrala villages. IOCL disburses the payments directly into the farmers’ accounts, ensuring a streamlined process.
