Haryana CM Khattar announces hike in sugarcane prices

Chandigarh: Taking a step to resolve the farmers’ ongoing protest, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday announced a hike in the prices of sugarcane.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced the increase of SAP for the cane to RS 372 per quintal from the existing Rs 362.

Sugarcane farmers have launched a protest demanding a hike in SAP for the cane to Rs 450 per quintal. Farmers led by Charuni have stopped supplying cane to all the 14 sugar mills in the state since January 20 for their demand and locked the sugar mills to press their demands.

They had also planned to block the roads in front of the sugar mills from January 27 for an indefinite period.

Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) (Charuni) leader stated that the farmers will disrupt the scheduled rally of Union Minister Amit Shah in the state by launching protests.
