Haryana: Sugar mill takes steps to boost sugarcane cultivation in region

Yamunanagar: The Saraswati Sugar Mill has opened a treasure trove of announcements for farmers to increase the area under sugarcane cultivation in the district. Not only will farmers receive a subsidy of 5000 rupees per acre for planting sugarcane, but they will also get a 20% subsidy on various pesticides.

Moreover, traps and capsules will be provided for free to control pests that cause damage to sugarcane crops.

According to the news report published in Amar Ujala, for the sugarcane season 2024-25, the Saraswati Sugar Mill has decided to offer special facilities to sugarcane-producing farmers. The initiative was launched on Friday in the presence of Naina Puri, daughter of MD Aditya Puri, by SK Sachdeva, the Chief Executive Officer of Saraswati Sugar Mill. SK Sachdeva explained that farmers who plant sugarcane more than the previous year will receive a subsidy of 5000 rupees per acre for the expanded area. Farmers can plant as much sugarcane as they want, and there is no limit to the subsidy per acre. Additionally, a 20% subsidy will be provided on various pesticides, and traps and capsules will be provided free of charge to control pests and diseases such as dirty and sugarcane top borer.

SK Sachdeva further explained that farmers can avail the benefits of these schemes only when they supply 85% of their sugarcane to the Saraswati mill. For this, farmers will have to register themselves at the sugar mill. Registration will begin on April 22, and all farmers will also have to fill out a sugarcane bonding form as per the rules.

He mentioned that farmers who supplied more than 85% of sugarcane in the 2023-24 season will be awarded prizes worth around eight lakhs through a lucky draw. This scheme will apply to farmers who supply more than 85% of sugarcane in the 2024-25 season.
