Heavy rainfall affects crops in Maharashtra

Pune: Over the past few days, heavy rains are causing trouble to farmers in central and south Maharashtra as well as the Konkan region. According to the media reports, heavy rains have caused damage to standing crops in eight districts of the state. More than 1.23 lakh hectare of area under cultivation has been affected. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that rains will continue to shower for the next few days.

Standing crops including sugarcane from Pune, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur and other parts of the state have been impacted. Farmers have reported water logging in their fields.

The government is yet to initiate the loss assessment of the crops which would provide the actual loss incurred due to heavy rainfall.
The state has received 1,129.3 mm rainfall since June as compared to 1,036.3 mm normally.
