Illegal sugar continue to enter in Kenya: Western MCAs

Kenya: Illegal sugar continues to be imported in Kenya. The issue has been raised by a section of western leaders.

According to the local media report, as many as 10 MCAs from five sugar belt regions said that despite the government’s ban on sugar import, it continues to enter the country illegally. They have urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to look into the matter and reinforce its border patrols in order to weed out cartels who are still benefiting from the illegal trade at the expense of local production.

In the month of July, Peter Munya, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary (CS) had banned the import of sugar and revoked the current import permits.
