India may replace China as third-largest ethanol consumer by 2026

Ethanol production and consumption in India is increasing day-by-day and the country is likely to replace China as the world’s third-largest ethanol consumer by 2026. In the last four years, ethanol consumption in India has tripled.

As per the media report, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA), India would surpass China by 2026 in terms of ethanol consumption. The agency in its report stated that India has advanced the target of blending 20% ethanol from 2030 to 2025 and has aimed to sell 20% blends in 2023.

Supporting ethanol production would help the country to reduce oil imports, lower air pollution and generate employment opportunities, said the agency.

Ethanol blending in the country in 2017 was 2% which has reached 8% in 2021 and the country is set to achieve 10% by the end of this year.
