India registers record sugar exports in this season

New Delhi: In this season, India has performed well in sugar export. So far sugar mills in the country have contracted 5.7 million tonnes of sugar. Mills had a target to export 6 million tonnes.

According to the news report published in Economic Times, Subodh Kumar Singh, joint secretary, food ministry said, “So far 5.7 million tonnes of sugar have been contracted out of which 5.5 million tonnes have been already dispatched from mills. It has been possible due to better coordination between ministry, millers and transporters during Covid-19 pandemic. We expect contracts of further 5-6 lakh tonnes before the season ends.”

The good demand from emerging markets has helped India to achieve record export of sugar this year.
