India has set a new record in sugar exports this season and the major destinations were Indonesia and Bangladesh.
According to the data released by the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), 44 per cent of sugar has been exported to Indonesia and Bangladesh, which are the major destination in the ongoing season. Last year India exported 48 per cent of sugar to Indonesia and Afghanistan during the same period.
Indian mills have signed export contracts to supply 80 lakh tonnes of sugar and physically exported 57.17 lakh tonnes of sugar from October 2021 to March 2022. During the same period last year, India exported 31.85 lakh tonnes of sugar. Indian mills are likely to export 7-8 lakh tonnes of sugar in April 2022.
India also exported sugar to Sudan, UAE, Somalia, Saudi Arab, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Nepal, China, etc. Indian sweetener has also been imported by USA, Singapore, Oman, Qatar, Turkey, Iran, Syria, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Germany, France, New Zealand, Denmark, Israel, Russia, Egypt, etc.
In a tweet, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Textiles, Shri Piyush Goyal said that the government’s policies were helping farmers increase their income by tapping global markets.
