Jakarta: President Joko Wododo (Jokowi) has asked the officials associated with the Agriculture department including Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo and The State-owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir to increase the domestic sugar production to meet the country’s requirements.
“The president has instructed us to increase sugar production and we have to take up the work to expand the land to increase output,” said Limpo.
The sugar production in the country was 2.35 million tonnes whereas the domestic demand for sugar was much higher including 3.2 million tons for consumption and 4.1 million tons for industrial use.
The global economic disruptions have resulted in several countries restricting their export quota which is fluctuating the national sugar supply, the minister said.
