Kapurthala procures more than the set target of 20 per cent wheat

Phagwara: Kapurthala district has surpassed the set target of procurement of 20% wheat for the current season, reports Tribune India.

Last year the wheat procured in the district was 3,15,372 MT while this year it has made a new record with 3,78,600 MT on May 25 which was 63,000 MT more than last year.

The bumper production of wheat has been attributed to the farmers, said deputy commissioner Captain Karnail Singh.

The government agencies have procured 20% wheat more than the set target, with Pungrain leading with 99,770 MT, followed by Punjab State Warehouse Corporation (88,734 MT), Punsup (87,792 MT) and Markfed (82,599 MT).

Private buyers have procured 17,910 MT while FCI has procured 1,794 MT.
The wheat arrived at all the 42 mandis in the district have been purchased at the minimum support price fixed by the government and the farmers were paid within 48 hours after the purchase of the wheat by the agencies. Farmers have received around Rs 766.24 crore from the agencies.
