Karnataka: Farmers stage protest to hike sugarcane price

Bengaluru: Demanding higher sugarcane price, the farmers tried to blockade the Chief Minister’s home in the city on Monday.

Farmers are demanding the government to hike sugarcane price to Rs 4,500 per tonne and waive all the pending electricity bills before 2017.

The agitators were stopped by police and some were taken into custody and released later. Farmers across the state had gathered to participate in the protest and most of them were from Mandya district where 11 lakh acres of land are under cane cultivation.
