Karnataka: Sugar mills to face action if found cheating in sugarcane weighing, says Minister

Kalaburagi: Textiles and Sugarcane Development Minister Shivanand S Patil has issued a stern warning, stating that the licenses of sugar mills involved in cheating farmers by manipulating the weight of sugarcane during the current crushing season will face cancellation, report The Times of India.

Addressing the media in the capital on Wednesday, Minister Patil emphasized the importance of sugarcane growers receiving receipts after the weighing process at the APMC.

Patil said, “Sugarcane growers should get a receipt after weighing at the APMC. The same cane has to be reweighed in the sugar factory. A written complaint should be made if any weight discrepancy is found. If they are found guilty, the licence of the factory for sugarcane crushing will be cancelled. Unfortunately, not many farmers are coming forward to file a written complaint.”
