Karnataka: Sugarcane farmers agitate for pending cane dues

Mysuru: Sugarcane farmers from Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts protested outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner in Siddharthnagar demanding payment of cane dues from last season, reports The Hindu.

Farmers under the leadership of the Karnataka Sugarcane Farmers Association marched towards the office of the Deputy Commissioner with a memorandum of their demands.

The farmers have stated that the mills have not paid them the additional Rs 150 per tonne announced by the state government despite the launched 38-day-long dharna in Bengaluru.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Kavitha Rajaram received their memorandum and stated that she will bring this to the notice of senior officials.

Farmers have demanded the sugar mills should clear their dues for the last season before starting the forthcoming crushing season.
