Karnataka: Sugarcane farmers demand increase in sugarcane price

Belgavi: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha have launched their agitation in front of the office of the deputy commissioner in Belgavi for increasing the price of sugarcane, reports The Hindu.

The farmers have demanded the government to hike the minimum support price for the cane to Rs 5,500 per tonne and ensure that the sugar factories pay them this amount.

Farmers spend the night in front of the office sleeping on mattresses and shouting slogans against the government. As a part of their protest, they locked the front door of the office.
