Karnataka: Sugarcane farmers demand reopening of sugar mill

Mysuru: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of the Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers’ Association have raised questions over the state government’s delay in reopening Sri Rama Sugar Factory.

Addressing a press conference in Mysuru, Ankanalli Thimmappa K, president of the Mysuru division of the organisation said, “Despite our appeal to the former Chief Ministers B S Yediyurappa and Siddaramaiah to reopen the sugar mill, no action was taken. But in few other districts, several sugar factories were reopened on lease.”

“Along with reopening the sugar mill, the government should increase sugarcane price to Rs 5,000 per tonne,” he further added.
