Kolhapur: 140 cheating cases registered against sugarcane labour suppliers

Kolhapur: In a special camp organised by Kolhapur police, as many as 140 cases of cheating have been registered against sugarcane labour suppliers in a single day, reports The Times of India.

These include the cases registered across all 31 police stations of the district in one day. Around 1,658 sugarcane transporters have registered their complaints against these suppliers stating that they have been cheated to the tune of Rs 14 crore.

Police took the initiative and launched a camp after Superintendent of Police Shailesh Balkawade received several complaints from the transporters.

“Most of the transporters are farmers and they have been cheated by the labour managers. After receiving complaints in a large number, I instructed all the police stations to launch a drive and register complaints in this regard. I have asked the incharges of all the police stations to for,” he said.
