Kyrgyzstan bans sugar exports

The Cabinet ministers have banned the export of raw and refined sugar for six months from Kyrgyzstan to maintain the availability of sugar in domestic markets.

Minister of Agriculture Askarbek Janybekov said that the decision had been taken not due to any shortage of sugar in the domestic market. There are about 30,000 tons of sugar stocks in the country.

According to some Bishkek market sellers, the price hike of sugar in domestic markets is due to a hike in the export of the commodity.

As per the media report, sugar is available in Kyrgyzstan, but the price of sugar has indeed risen primarily due to an increase in wholesale prices.
