Less protection of sugar would bring higher margins to producers: Brazilian governor

Addressing an industry conference on Monday, the governor of Brazil’s Sao Paulo, Joao Doria, said that the less protection of sugar will guarantee better access and low prices for consumers. Doria in his opening remarks at a three-day industry meet in Dubai said, “Sugar is the most protected product in the market, the reduction of tax and non-tax barriers would guarantee better access.”

“It is a win-win game and would give high profit to producers and consumers will get the commodity at cheap price,” he further added.

Brazil is the world’s largest sugar exporters and second producer. Doria also stated that the countries should produce ethanol from sugarcane that helps in reducing pollution and is a great source of innovation.
