Naundero: Unlike India, Pakistan is also facing the sugarcane arrears payment issue. Many sugar mills have not paid the arrears to the farmers. The cane growers launched agitation against the Naundero Sugar Mills for pending arrears on Wednesday. It has been alleged that sugar mill owes sugarcane arrears from last three years.
The protesters gathered at the gates of the mill with banners and raised slogans against the mill administration.
The farmers have stated that they borrowed loan from the banks for fertilizers and other agricultural activities to grow the cane. However, as the mill has not paid them the bills, they are unable to repay the loan. Last year they had protested for more than 33 days, but the mill administration did not take any step to clear the dues. They expect that the mill will pay the bills at least this year and stated that they would not stop agitation until their arrears get cleared.
