Lockdown impacts repair and maintenance work of sugar mills

Gadhinglaj (Kolhapur): The new sugarcane crushing season in Maharashtra is likely to start from October. With hardly three months left for the commencement of the season, the sugar mills are struggling to do maintenance work of the mills’ machinery due to lockdown.

Every year before the new season, mills do maintenance work of the machinery so that during sugarcane crushing they don’t have to face a hurdle. They procure the machinery spare parts from Mumbai and Pune, but as the cities are under lockdown due to Covid-19, dealers are unable to supply the material.

Also according to the media reports, mills are facing problems to get the manpower to complete the repair work due to the spurt in the coronavirus pandemic.
