Lockdown: Tamil Nadu’s sugar mill taking care of sugarcane harvesters from Maharashtra

Madurai: Around 103 sugarcane harvesters from Nanded district of Maharashtra that who had travelled to Theni district, Tamil Nadu, are stuck due to lockdown. They had travelled to Cumban two months ago to harvest sugarcane crop.

According to The Hindu, mill and the district administration has taken care of their residence and food. The mill has made arrangement of their stay in a local private school since March 24 when lockdown came into effect.

District collector M Pallavi Baldev visited the school on Saturday and inquired with them about their stay and food. She assured them that the arrangements of their stay will continue till lockdown assistance by the government for them to return to their homes as and when the situation improves. All the workers have been screened for Covid-19 by the health department officials.
