Maharashtra: BJP threatens statewide agitation over sugarcane farmers issue

Mumbai: The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra has ignored the welfare of sugarcane farmers and we will launch a statewide agitation from March against the government, said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Chandrakant Patil on Tuesday, reports The Indian Express.

Patil said, “The sugarcane farmers are not getting their cane bills even after supplying the cash crop to sugar mills which are increasing the financial burden of the farmers.”

“Sugar mills must pay a fair and remunerative price (FRP) to the sugarcane farmers within 14 days of sending their cane to the mill for crushing but the mills are not doing it. During our reign we had provided Rs 2,100 crore interest-free loan to the sugar mills which helped them to clear the cane bills of farmers,” he further added.
