Maharashtra: CM Uddhav Thackeray directs sugar mills to continue crushing operations till they crush all cane standing in fields

Mumbai: Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has directed sugar mills in the state not to shut operations till they crush all the cane grown in fields.

This season, the state has recorded a bumper sugarcane production as the area under cane cultivation was increased by 2.25 lakh hectares compared to the preceding season.

He issued instructions to the millers in a meeting convened to review the status of sugarcane crushing in the state that was attended by several heavyweight ministers from the state cabinet, sugar commissioner, and others.

Cooperative Minister Balasaheb Patil said that in a meeting conducted under the leadership of CM Thackeray it was decided to provide a subsidy of Rs 200 per tonne for crushing excess cane after May 1.
