Maharashtra govt to take action against supervisor-contractors for cheating sugarcane farmers

Nagpur: Maharashtra government will be taking action against supervisor-contractors who defrauded sugar mills, cane workers, cane transporters, and farmers by taking advance payments and do not complete the work, reports Free Press Journal. The government will put in place a mechanism to take action against them.

He was replying during the discussion on the calling attention motion in the state assembly moved by the leader of the opposition Ajit Pawar.

Pawar said that the contractors and transporters that supply cane to the sugar mill do not complete their work even after taking advance payments from the sugar mills. They even do not pay the bills of cane laborers, said Pawar.

He demanded the government set up a mechanism through the Gopinath Munde Sugarcane Workers Welfare Corporation to prevent this malpractice.
