Maharashtra: Kolhapur district leads in higher sugarcane payment

Kolhapur: Sugarcane farmers in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra will get the highest price of Rs 3,300 per tonne in the 2023-24 season, the highest so far announced in the state.
The Panchganga unit of Renuka Sugars Limited, located in the district, has declared the highest rate of Rs 3,300 per tonne. This rate is the highest among the announced rates in the state so far. No mill in districts such as Sangli, Satara, Solapur, Ahmednagar, Pune, Latur, etc., has declared a price as high as this.
Thousands of farmers in Kolhapur district are expected to benefit from this announcement. Raju Shetti, leader of the Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana and former MP, had advocated for an additional Rs 400 for sugarcane in the previous season. To press this demand, he organised protests against sugar mills in Sangli and Kolhapur districts in March. The sugarcane farmers received support during this march.
