Maharashtra: More than 50 per cent active Covid cases from sugar belt

Pune: According to the news report published in Thehindubusinessline.com, the sugar belt of Maharashtra that comprises Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Pune and Solapur lead the list of active Covid cases in Maharashtra.

As per the State government’s health portal as on July 28 morning, out of 82,056 active Covid-19 cases, 43,818 cases (53.4%) are from these five districts located in Western parts of the state. Among the five districts, Pune leads the chart with 15,344 active cases followed by Kolhapur (8,749), Sangli (8,348), Satara (7,271) and Solapur (4,106).

The sugar-producing districts Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara were severely affected by the floods which affected the vaccination drive. The IMD has warned that the region is likely to receive more in the next few days.

As the flood recedes the State Health Minister Rajesh Tope has asked the health department officials to continue the vaccination drive in the region.
