Maharashtra: Shahu sugar mill to pay FRP in one installment

Kolhapur: Setting aside the controversy of payment of fair and remunerative price (FRP) in installments, the Chhatrapati Shahu cooperative sugar mill in Kagal has announced to pay FRP to the cane farmers in one go.

According to the news report published in The Times of India, Samarjeetsinh Ghatage, chairman of the sugar mill said that the mill will pay farmers the FRP of Rs 2,993 per tonne for the cane crushing season that starts from October 15.

“We will be paying farmers the FRP in one installment as the farmers are reeling under financial stress as the recent rain has damaged their crops,” he further added.

The Shahu sugar mill has set the new trend with this announcement and it is expected that other sugar mills in the state would follow the same, said farmers.
