Maharashtra: Sugar factory starts medical oxygen production

Osmanabad: Responding to the call of the government to overcome the shortage of medical oxygen, the Dharashiv Sugar Factory has started production of the oxygen at its plant in Maharashtra.

As per PTI news report, a mill official said, “The factory began oxygen production at its ethanol plant after installing some new machinery and making adequate changes at the plant.”

The medical oxygen produced was filled in 90 cylinders on Wednesday. The factory aims to fill up around 800-900 cylinders this week and plans to raise production next week, he said.

The mill started oxygen production after Vasantdada Sugar Institute (VSI) from Pune appealed to sugar mills having ethanol-producing plants to focus on oxygen production.

Oxygen is needed in treating Covid infected patients and the hospitals across the state and country are facing its shortage as the country is hit by the pandemic.
