Maharashtra sugar mills clear 94.52 per cent of FRP dues

Kolhapur: Sugar mills in Maharashtra have paid 94.52 per cent Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) to sugarcane farmers. Out of 190 mills that started crushing season 117 sugar mills have paid 100 per cent FRP.

The Maharashtra sugar commissioner has issued RRC notices to 29 sugar mills in the state that have delayed FRP to the sugarcane farmers.

According to the data released by the State Sugar Commissioner office, mills had to pay Rs 23,320.57 crore to farmers by May end of which Rs 22,043.13 crore have been paid. FRP arrears are Rs 1,277.44 crore.

Around 190 sugar mills including 95 cooperative mills and 95 mills in the private sector were operating during the ongoing season. These mills have crushed 1,012 lakh tonne sugarcane this season as against 545 lakh tonne sugarcane last season.

Sugar mills in the state have produced 106.28 lakh tonne sugar this season which is more than the sugar produced during the previous season. During last season only 147 sugar mills participated in the cane crushing season and produced 61.61 lakh tonne sugar.
