Maharashtra: Sugar mills gear up for oxygen production

Pune: Coming forward to help in the crisis of coronavirus pandemic, around 70 sugar mills in Maharashtra have geared up to manufacture oxygen.

According to the news report published in Thehindubusinessline.com, Prakash Naiknavare, MD, National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF) said, “About 25 mills are already in the process to set up oxygen plants and we are focusing on about 60-70 sugar mills that have financially performed very well. The majority of these mills are in rural areas and the demand for oxygen here could be met by sugar mills.”

“The mills will modify distilleries to produce oxygen. The mills are working as a part of their commitment towards society,” he said.

NCP chief Sharad Pawar had urged sugar mills to take steps to produce oxygen at their ethanol production plants.
