The number of sugar mills participating in the cane crushing operations this season continues to increase, reaching 187 now. According to the sugar commissionerate, the sugar mills have produced 379.09 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 397.79 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery rate of 9.53 per cent.
Solapur division is leading in the state with a maximum number of mills (43) participating in the cane crushing operations. The mills have produced 82.45 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 95.66 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery rate of 8.62 per cent.
Sugar mills in the Kolhapur division have surpassed the recovery rate of 10 per cent. The mills have till December 22, 2021, produced 105.93 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 97.74 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery rate of 10.84 per cent.
