Maharashtra to start hostels for children of migrant sugarcane workers

Mumbai: The Maharashtra cabinet on Wednesday cleared the implementation of the hostel scheme for the children of sugarcane cutting workers. It was chaired by state Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. The decision has been taken to construct 82 hostels across 41 talukas in the state under the Sant Bhagwan Baba Government Hostel Scheme.

At the initial phase, the government will set up 10 separate hostels each for boys and girls in Beed, Jalna, Parbhani, Latur, Nashik, Jalgaon, Aurangabad, Osmanabad, Nanded and Ahmednagar during the current academic year.

The decision will be very helpful for the children of sugarcane cutting workers, who migrate during the sugar season and skip half of their regular classes every year.
