Malaysia: Govt restores shortage of sugar supply on East Coast

Sepang: The government has succeeded in restoring the sugar supply on the East Coast, said Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, reports The Star.

It was caused due to the temporary closure of the MSM Malaysia Holdings Bhd sugar mills in Johor and Perai, Penang.

The factories that resumed operations on April 25 were closed for Aidilfitri, he said.

The government is closely working with two local sugar producers namely MSM Malaysia and Central Sugars Refinery Sdn Bhd (CSR) to resolve the sugar shortage issue.

Around 250,000 kg of sugar was distributed to several supermarkets in the state, said Kelantan KPDN director Azman Ismail.
