Malaysia: Ministry ensures continuous supply of sugar in market

Kota Kinabalu: Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub has said that the ministry would ensure a continuous supply of sugar in the market, reports New Straits Times.

He said that the sugar manufacturers have been ordered to produce white sugar for consumer use to ensure that there will not be any shortage of the sugar.

He said the steps have been taken to ensure that the prices are under control and we are monitoring the supply of sugar daily.

“After the ministry allowed the industry to produce clear refined white sugar that they can sell without price control, the condition has been set that the supply of the coarse and refined white sugar must be in the market,” said Salahuddin.

The government on Thursday granted permission to two local sugar-producing companies- MSM Malaysia Holdings Bhd and Central Sugars Refinery Sdn Bhd (CSR) to produce clear refined white sugar.
