Malaysia: Shopkeeper arrested for selling above fixed price

Ipoh: The officials of the Malaysian government in Seri Iskandar nabbed a shopkeeper for selling sugar above the maximum fixed price.

Wan Muhammad Badro Wan Mahmood, in-charge of the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affair Ministry, Manjurng branch said, “We initiated action after we received a complaint from people. We sent a decoy customer to purchase the sugar from the shop. After he purchased one kg sugar, he was asked to pay RM2.90 which confirmed that the shopkeeper was violating the rules.”

The maximum price set by the government for retail sugar is RM2.85 a kilogramme.
