Malaysian Trade ministry assures sufficient sugar supply for domestic consumption

Shah Alam: The supply of sugar for local consumption is adequate, said the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP).

Datuk Rosol Wahid, deputy minister of the ministry said the shortage of sugar in the East Coast states was due to the technical problems faced by the Malayan Sugar Manufacturing (MSM) Bhd factory in Perai, Penang.

He was speaking at a press conference after he visited the Central Sugar Refinery (CSR) Sdn Bhd factory to inspect the functioning of the sugar mill and ensure that the production meets domestic needs.

“The operations in the factory in Perai have become operational again and we are satisfied with the results,” he said.

According to the media report, he said, “In Kuantan, Pahang I received information that there was a one-week delay in supply delivery, and a similar situation also occurred in Terengganu. However, I contacted the wholesalers again before I came here and they said the sugar shipments had arrived.”
