Many sugar mills in Solapur may not crush sugarcane this season

Solapur: The drought in Solapur district has affected the cane growers. Farmers have uprooted sugarcane in the severely drought-affected regions of the state to feed their animals as other green fodders were not available. The unavailability of sugarcane is likely to hamper many sugar mills this season.

The assembly election and other factors have resulted in a delay in commencement of the crushing season. According to the reports, cane crushing will begin after Diwali only.

Due to cane scarcity, many sugar mills in Solapur may not participate in the crushing season. Last season 31 mills participated in cane crushing, whereas this season only 23 mills have applied for crushing license.
