Mechanisation will increase income of sugarcane farmers

Coimbatore: Mechanisation of cane cultivation will increase the income of cane farmers, said G Hemaprabha, Director, ICAR Sugarcane Institute, Coimbatore, reports The Times of India. Hemaprabha was speaking at Canefest organised in the city.

Addressing the gathering Hemaprabha said, “Cost of cane cultivation in Tamil Nadu is average ₹2 lakh per hectare which is the highest in the country.”

‘Manual harvesting brings down profit earned by farmers. Farmers have to spend 800-900 for harvesting per tonne of crop, while the market price of sugarcane is 3,000 per tonne,” Hemaprabha further added.
