‘Mission Shakti’ launched by UP cane development

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Development Department on Thursday has launched ‘Mission Shakti’ campaign to honor, protect and self-reliance of the women and girls that are earning their income in the state.

Sanjay Bhoosreddy, state Sugarcane Commissioner said, the women from the state have participated in the development of sugarcane seedlings by setting up nurseries through self-help groups in villages. The number of women participating in this programme has been increased from 10 to 25 in each Cane Development council area, he said. The numbers of women from each SHG have been increased from 10 to 35.

Total 41,113 women Entrepreneurs have been registered through 1,964 SHGs that have been participating in the programme launched in 36 sugar-dominated districts in the state, he said.

The department has trained them to prepare seedlings by single bud chip method. These women have prepared 10.36 crore seedlings and they have earned Rs 27 crore through the sale of 9 crore seedlings. It is expected that every woman would earn an average 59,000 per annum through sugarcane nursery.
