More than 400,000 tonnes of sugar held at Batangas port

Manila: As many as 400,000 metric tonnes of sugar are being held at Batangas port following a memorandum from Agriculture senior Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban.

As per the memo, Sugar Regularly Administration administrator David John Alba has been asked to certify the legality of the shipment which was a subject of an investigation following the allegations of smuggling.

The clearance for the imported sugar has been issued, said Pablo Luis Azcona, the SRA board member, and the planters’ representative.

Panganiban in his memorandum to Alba said, “Considering the Sugar Order No. 5, you may now issue the clearances for the release of imported sugar to three international sugar traders that participated namely All Asian Countertrade Inc.  240,000 metric tons, Edison Lee Marketing, 100,000 MT, and S&D SUCDEN Philippines Inc., 100,000 MT.”
