Mozambique extends VAT exemption on sugar for three years

Maputo: Mozambique has extended the exemption of sugar, soap and cooking oil from Value Added Tax (VAT) for three years till December 2023. The Parliament approved the exemption considering the impact of Covid-19.

The government in May had earlier extended the exemption till December due to the social and economic impact caused by the pandemic.

Finance Minister Adriano Maleiane said that the raw materials, equipment and intermediate parts used in, sugar oil and soap production industries. have also been exempted from VAT. The steps have been taken to reduce the burden of the tax on consumers.
