Mysugar likely to start cane crushing by June end

Mandya: The Mysuru Sugar Factory (MySugar) is likely to start cane crushing operations at the earliest and if things go as planned it would start operations by the end of June, reports The Times of India.

The mill had started operations in 2017-18 but discontinued cane crushing in 2018-19 after the technical problems in machinery surfaced. The state government had then planned to lease out the mill to private players as it was making huge losses.

After the farmers’ protest, the mill reopened on September 1, 2022, and the crushing continued till February 2, 2023. The factory could crush only 1, 01,842 tonnes of cane (29.09%) out of the total 3.50 lakh tonnes of sugar for which it had agreed with farmers.

The government has taken up the issue of sugar mills on a serious note and released Rs 50 crore for the mill to take up the crushing. The mill would spend Rs 15 crore for repair work and reserve the remaining amount as working capital.
