Karnataka: Sugarcane farmers demand hike in FRP

Mysuru, karnataka: Farmers under the banner of the State Sugarcane Growers’ Association have launched a protest demanding a hike in the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for the sugarcane crop.

According to the news report published in Thehindu.com, farmers will hold demonstrations today at the JSS College Ooty Road Circle protesting against the government over not hiking FRP for sugarcane. The farmers claim that 2,850 per tonne FRP is not adequate for them.

Demanding a hike in FRP to Rs 3,200 per tonne, Kuruburu Shanthakumar, president of the Association said, “There is a steep hike in input costs due to increase in prices of fertilizers and diesel which has affected the cane farmers. The government is only boasting about doubling farmers’ income but actually their income is lowering.”
