Kathmandu: The Nepal government has fixed the minimum support price for sugarcane at Rs 610 per quintal for this season, reports Kathmandu Post.
The new rates were informed by the ministry of agriculture and livestock development through a press release.
The government had last year increased the MSP for sugarcane by 8.39% to Rs 590 per quintal.
The ministry has stated that out of Rs 610, the MSP is Rs 540 and the subsidy is around Rs 70.
Farmers have stated that they are forced to sell sugarcane to the jaggery units at Rs 300 to 350 per quintal as the government has not declared MSP for the cane.
Farmers had demanded Rs 705 per quintal for cane for this season.
